![]() The Last Oricru would have probably been a lot better off if it did its own thing instead of aping something else and trying to staple it to its narrative elements. The combat and exploration feel at odds with the storytelling. However, the gameplay just didn’t quite cut it for me. The world-building is solid and the central conceit of choosing to ally yourself with The Last Oricru‘s factions kept me wanting to see what was next. The characterization and dialogue are, surprisingly, very good for the most part. ![]() The humans awake in a monastery run by monks of the Naboru race, which is at war with the Ratkin people. Silver came to the planet Wardenia with his shipmates, only for something to go horribly wrong (as is wont to happen). ![]() You play as a human only known as Silver. The story is honestly quite interesting here. As such, it really didn’t need to try and copy something it never had any hopes of emulating. The thing that really smarts is that Souls combat and level design are in this game, but it mostly wants to be a story-focused action RPG. Many 3D games that aim to be “ Souls-likes” typically miss the mark on all of those things and more. ![]() I like the FromSoftware games that inspired them, but those games work because of their meticulous world design, careful combat balance, and fantastic gameplay options. it was honestly quite entertaining. As a rule, I typically don’t enjoy 3D Souls-likes. there were some very funny moments and lines. more or less by accident i joined the revolution of the rat-people.and what can i tell you: it's fantastic. What realy catched me was the plot (the start is a tad rough) and the Ratvolution. not great, you can definitly feel the U4 and the budget, but it's okay. It's a strange mix between souls-like, diablo, Gothic but it kinda works. also at one point i had grafical artifacts on one specific menu which disappeared after a reload. also despite the game beeing realy not pretty or detailed i saw some fps-dips despite running a beefy rig (i9, 3070, 32). Having no run-toggle (aka you need to keep the left-stick pressed to run) and no fov slider are annyoin. , but still worlds apart from what From offers. it's janky, not as janky as Gothic and co. there are a lot of movesets, with a wide variety of differences even in a singel moveset.īut do not expect some polished AAA-Souls-combat. ontop there's a running attack and even a jumping attack. Weight, poise, stamina all the essentials are here and work solid. your mana can either be recovered via set-boni (passiv reg.) or via a special offhand-weapon (people complaining, seem to not understand how it scales, you can fill your bar again pretty fast when doing it right). weapons don't just offer heavy and normal attacks, they may also have specials (like a fire buff or a void-shield) or/and the ability to parry (very "noob"-friendly parry-window). every item has it's (sometimes pretty excessive) lore-describtion. armor comes in sets, which offer set-boni. there's also a whole 3tier upgrade system so lots of room for tinkering and min/maxing the scope kinda hits you when you progress away from the first major area. but there's a diablo-esque element to it: gear comes in different quality ratings partly from drops (enemies), hidden in the enviroment or rewards. aswell as 2 ring and 1 amulet slot and head, leg, feet, hand, chest slots. there's a ton of gear: poles, axes, swords, hammer, 2handers, spears, shields, magic-staffs, etc. ![]() you get all the expected stats, you level meet gear requirements and increase your statistics via souls-like attribute-distribution. honestly once you get the Skyrim-i-need-to-do-everything-my-way-feel out of your head the way the game process your choices, losses and wins is very good. you learn pretty early that dying will and can have consequence for the plot as does pretty much every choice you make (no save scummin). The one aspect where the game realy shines is it's claim to be open for choice and consequence. i can only comment on one possible story-line and there some pretty funny lines and moments right from the get go (early spoiler: due to some misshap in communication between species your MC's name is "no f**king sailor" for a time). The game doesn't take itself to serious and the MC reflects that. The VO is pretty good i don't quite get why some make a big fuss out of the MC's VO the actor does a good job, the voice is okay.perhaps people are to used to Geralt's voice and now every VO has to be dark, brooding and gritty. some backdrops are kinda nice to look at and the lighting can be pretty, but beeing it textures or the level of detail: this is an ugly, ugly U4 game. none-human character models are kinda okay, but humans look honestly like straight outta PS4 times, nevermind the enviroments. The U4-logo is kinda fitting at the start if you'd ask me to show you a U4 game it would be Oricru. When starting the game i was realy and i do mean: ealy underwhelmed ![]()
